Employment/ Work Visa

Work visa is mandatory for living and working in UAE. The process of obtaining work visa, one is required to have a valid work contract or a job offer in UAE. It is basically the employer’s responsibility to sponsor the employees’ visa application as well as pay the relevant fees.

Once the employee is in UAE, the employer sponsoring him or her should proceed to complete other formalities which may include medical testing, obtaining an Emirates ID card, Labour Card, and the work residency permit being stamped on the employee’s passport within 60 days from the date of arrival. The work residency permit is an important document that is issued by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in the emirate where the applicant is employed. If he or she has family members joining along, he or she will be eligible to sponsor them and bring them into the UAE once this stage completes.

Requirements for Employment Visa

  • The employment contract or a job in a UAE based company.
  • The company or the employer is required to request for a work visa for the person at the Immigration Department.
  • There should be a valid passport with the person being aged between 18 to 60 (exception for some professions) with a good health and must possess particular skills or qualifications.
  • Persons with certain diseases like HIV, tuberculosis or hepatitis C aren’t allowed to stay in UAE.
  • The credentials are required to be authenticated by both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UAE consulate in the home country.
